UFC 129 is still two months away, but it has already obliterated North American records for ticket sales and gate.

The promotion confirmed that Toronto’s Rogers Centre was reconfigured from 42,000 to meet extra demand, yet fans snapped up tickets in record numbers. The final tally was 55,000 seats sold.

The old record for paid attendance was just set in December 2010, when 23,152 filled Montreal’s Bell Centre.

Alan Belcher was supposed to fight Demian Maia in September but was forced to pull out of the fight due to suffering from a detached retina.

The injury was once thought to be career-threatening, however, Belcher has overcome the odds and is back training full-time again.

The 26-year-old told MMA Fighting last week that he hopes to return to the UFC in June or July, and his wish is to get another crack at Maia.

LAS VEGAS — Georges St. Pierre will main event the first stadium show in UFC history when he takes on Jake Shields in April.

If he wins, he’ll likely get a second big stage immediately following it.

UFC president Dana White said that if St. Pierre defeats Shields, it will set up a long-awaited St. Pierre vs. Anderson Silva superfight for the middleweight championship, and the event is a near-lock to take place at a stadium. Among the possible hosts? Texas’ Cowboys Stadium, and Toronto’s Rogers Centre.

UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva retained his belt Saturday at UFC 126 over Vitor Belfort and the finish was named by the UFC as the Knockout of the Night.

The other post-fight awards went to Jon Jones for Submission of the Night and Donald Cerrone vs. Paul Kelly for the Fight of the Night. Each winner will take home a $75,000 bonus.

Silva became only the second man in Belfort’s 14-plus year career to stop Belfort with strikes. In the first round of the UFC 126 main event, Silva clipped Belfort with a front kick to the chin, sinking Belfort to the mat. Silva followed with punches to finalize the win at three minutes and 29 seconds.

Silva said in the post-fight conference that the kick was perfected through the help of Steven Seagal.

Traditionally, the UFC likes to put together a great pay-per-view show on Super Bowl Eve. In 2010 that wasn’t the case, as the UFC offered up a weak card featuring the ancient Mark Coleman losing to the even older Randy Couture in the main event. But this year, the UFC has put together a blockbuster for the Super Bowl weekend show, with a card that, on paper, looks like one of the best of the year.

What: UFC 126: Silva vs. Belfort

Where: Mandalay Bay Events Center, Las Vegas

When: Saturday, the undercard starts around 7 PM ET, the Spike TV fights start at 9 and the pay-per-view starts at 10.

The Twitter campaign worked. The UFC debut of Japanese star Norifumi “KID” Yamamoto this Saturday at UFC 126 will be streamed live on the UFC’s Facebook page.

As a sign of just how stacked the UFC 126 card is, Yamamoto, once considered the best lighter weight fighter, managed to miss a spot on both the pay-per-view and Spike TV card. However, the fans spoke out on Twitter, asking UFC president Dana White to make the fight available in some capacity.

According to the UFC, the bantamweight fight will be streamed at 8:25 p.m. ET, followed by two preliminary bouts on Spike TV at 9 p.m. ET. The pay-per-view begins at 10 p.m. ET.
