OLYMPIA – Fishing for steelhead and other game fish will close early in several river systems in Puget Sound and along the Strait of Juan de Fuca to protect wild steelhead, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) announced today.

It is easy to see why federal fisheries management is in the shape it is in.
On one side of the debate is a completely obstinate environmental community that refuses to budge even an inch to address a train wreck in federal fisheries brought on by some provisions of the 2006 reauthorization of the Magnuson Stevens Act. On the other extreme is a recreational group involved in a coalition of charter and commercial fishing entities that takes a wildly different view from the environmental community.

PRATT – From October 15 through April 15, the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism (KDWPT) stocks rainbow trout in select waters across the state. During this time, some waters stocked with trout require a $12.50 trout permit for all anglers 16 or older, whether they are fishing for trout or not (Type 1 Waters). Other waters require a trout permit only for anglers fishing for or possessing trout (Type 2 Waters).

COLLEGE STATION, Texas.- National Guard FLW College Fishing is headed to Lake Somerville Oct. 13-15 for the Texas Regional Championship which is being hosted by Texas A&M University. Twenty college teams will be competing for a top award of $50,000 to be split between the school and bass fishing club; $37,500 for bass club, which includes $12,500 in cash as well as a Ranger 177TR with a 90 horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard wrapped in school colors and $12,500 for their school.

Action: Closure of Curl Lake (Columbia County) to fishing for all species.
Dates: Sept. 8 through Oct. 31, 2011.
Species Affected: All fish
Reason for action: Curl Lake in the upper Tucannon River drainage will be drained in early September to allow the lake bed to dry out prior to scheduled maintenance dredging. Dredging is necessary to maintain the lake for spring chinook acclimation prior to release, and for trout fishing opportunities.

LIZELLA, Ga. – Clint Barghi, of Friendswood, Texas, caught a redfish and speckled sea trout that measure a combined 51.75 inches in length to the win the IFA Kayak Fishing Tour Presented by Hobie Fishing event at Corpus Christi, Texas, on September 4. The event, which operated out of Marker 37, was the last of three regular-season events for the IFA Kayak Fishing Tour’s Texas Division.
