Barry Bonds to Enter New Plea Against Revised Perjury Charges
Filed under: Giants SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Federal prosecutors on Thursday cut the number of felony charges Barry Bonds faces from 11 to five. Major League Baseball’s home run leader still faces the same punishment he always has, but the paring of the charges still underscored the troubles prosecutors have encountered since indicting him for the first time in 2007 for allegedly lying to a grand jury about his steroids use.

Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports reports that the Cardinals have yet to make a concrete offer to retain the first baseman beyond the 2011 season. Pujols is believed to be seeking a contract in the neighborhood of the 10-year, $275 million-plus deal that Alex Rodriguez signed with the Yankees in 2007, although he’s been pretty tight-lipped about everything having to do with the negotiations to this point.
