TOKYO — A fairly strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.8 has hit off the shores of Japan’s southern Okinawa Island.
Officials said the quake Tuesday about 135 miles (220 kilometers) away from the island was not expected to cause a tsunami. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

After a less-than-stellar season two, Tuesday night’s “Glee” season three premiere proved that Ryan Murphy learned his lesson and brought his band of misfit gleeks back to the basics — show tunes, underdogs and more show tunes.
It’s been a summer of changes for our McKinley High outcasts. Quinn quit the glee club, dyed her hair hot pink, got a nose ring, an “ironic tattoo of Ryan Seacrest” and joined the ranks of The Skanks — that’s her new badass crew. Meanwhile, Sam “Trouty Mouth” Evans moved away and left diva Mercedes all by her lonesome, but she didn’t stay single for long. Mercedes has a new man this season, and he’s definitely a jock. And then Lauren Zizies ditched the glee club because they were ruining her image. According to Puck, “She was the one that got away, really really slowly.”
As for the rest of the gleeks, Kurt and Rachel are now BFFs planning to go off to New York after graduation, while Rachel’s boyfriend Finn has no idea what he wants to do post-graduation, but we’re not sure we see Finn living in New York City. Mike and Tina are still, well, Mike and Tina, and lovable blonde airhead Brittany is still spouting out the shows best one-liners.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) advises boat owners to secure their boats properly in advance of possible sustained heavy winds from Hurricane Irene.
Vessels that break free can cause problems to waterways by causing fuel and oil pollution, drifting into bridges, docks, seawalls and piers, and interfering with navigation. In addition, the boats themselves can sustain damage.

Fargo, ND- FM Walleyes Unlimited is donating over $800 worth of children’s books to Fargo Public Schools’ elementary libraries over the next few weeks. Members of the club will be delivering the books to the schools with the message: enjoy the outdoors and enjoy reading about the outdoors. The club purchased the books from FISH ON KIDS BOOKS™, chapter books targeted to second through sixth grade readers.
